Sunday, October 16, 2016, Pepito’s Parkway Theater

Brunch 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.   Ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m.

PAUL MAYASICH, SONGWRITER/VOCALIST/GUITARIST, TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE MINNESOTA BLUES HALL OF FAME AS “PERFORMER.” KEYBOARDIST/VOCALIST, WILBUR COLE, SELECTED TO RECEIVE THE MINNESOTA BLUES HALL OF FAME "LEGEND" AWARD. “LEGACY” AWARD HONORS LATE REAL-LIFE SISTER AND BROTHER, LAVERNE “LADY BLUE” JOHNSON AND BOBBY JOHNSON.  

It’s hard to believe that the 2016 Minnesota Blues Society’s Blues Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, which takes place on Sunday, October 16, at the Parkway Theater in Minneapolis, is our Tenth Annual!

If you have missed the last 9 stellar events, you won’t be disappointed this year! On Sunday, October 16, the event honors and features more Minnesota bright stars - singer/guitarist, Paul Mayasich, in the “Performer” category; harmonica wizard/vocalist, Steve “Boom Boom” Vonderharr as “Sideman;” keyboardist/vocalist, Wilbur Cole is our great “Legend;” photographer, Gary Eckhart, is receiving “Arts, Literature, Media” honors, RJ Mischo is being awarded for his written and recorded composition, “Two Hours From Tulsa;” and Shaw’s Bar and Grill proprietor, Mike Shaw in the “Supportive of the Blues” category.  Last but not least, the Minnesota Blues Society’s 2016 “Legacy” honors  will be awarded to the family of late vocalists, Bobby Johnson and Laverne “Lady Blue” Johnson, real-life brother and sister.

 

In the Minnesota Blues Society’s nearly 15-year history, we have celebrated, honored and inducted many great Blues luminaries, living and passed, who have dedicated 20 or more years of Blues talent into the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame in at least one of our 8 categories; the likes of Lazy Bill Lucas, Willie Murphy, George “MoJo” Buford, Auburn “Pat” Hare, Willie Walker, James “Cornbread” Harris, Angelo “Milwaukee Slim” Chambers, Leonard “Baby Doo” Caston, Sonny Rodgers, Percy Strother, Jimi “Prime Time” Smith, Tony Glover, Bruce McCabe, John Beach, Barbara LeShoure, John Koerner, Pat Hayes, John Franken, Curtis Obeda, Scottie Miller, Curtis Blake, Jeremy Johnson, Donald “Hye Pockets” Robertson, Joe Juliano – and not to forget the “BIGS!” - BIG Walter Smith, BIG John Dickerson, and BIG George Jackson!
