Stellar Performances By
Jimmi & the Band of Souls,
Brother Sun Sister Moon
and Black Water Blues Band

The week in Memphis for the International Blues Challenge is always exciting and filled with great music. This year was no exception. Our Minnesota acts contributed to that excitement with stellar performances. Brother Sun and Sister Moon played two very fine sets on Wednesday and Thursday nights at King's Palace. On Friday, The Black Water Blues Band rocked the house and really got a buzz going at Rum Boogie. Jimmi and the Band of Souls advanced to the semi-final round of competition finishing with a performance Friday night at Rum Boogie.

In each venue the acts were cheered by large enthusiastic crowds of Minnesotans who made the journey to Memphis in support of our local musicians. A good time was had by all. Lots of great music, people, BBQ and a few beverages. What more could you want? — Jake Jacobson

Back At It by Big George Jackson Blues Band

Big George Jackson
- Back At It
Tops "Best Self-Produced CD" Competition

The Back At It CD by Big George Jackson Blues Band was selected by a panel of judges to represent Minnesota at the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN in the "Best Self-Produced CD" Competition. The other seven entries in this year's field were Designated Rider by The Abiders, New Ground by Bob Bingham, Blues At Barkin' Jack's by Doug Otto & Hurricane Harold, Live From The Park Theater by Jimmi and the Band of Souls, Mike Munson by Mike Munson, The Blues Is Personal by Nigel Egg and Rock-A-Doodle-Blue the The Rhythm Roosters.

My sincere thanks to the judges who took the time to evaluate these CDs. This was no easy task with eight CDs and the quality of this year's entries. If you have not heard these acts I would encourage you to seek them out on the Blues Gig Calendar and buy their CDs. Once again, I am amazed at how truly blessed we are to have such a plethora of musical talent in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Blues Society is now accepting blues CDs released between October 1, 2014 - September 30, 2015 for the 2016 competition. CDs must be received by October 1, 2015. See CD Competition for details. — Jake Jacobson
