All in all it was a very good week for Minnesotans in Memphis, TN. Not only did Erin McCawley's Harrison Street Band and Lisa Wenger and Tim Wick make it to the semi-final round of the 2020 IBC Challenge; The C-Notes killed it at the Youth Showcase and the Mark Cameron Band put on impressive performances at their Blind Racoon Showcase.

Mark Cameron's On A Roll
Top Pick For 2019
Best Self-Produced CD Competition
Will Be Entered In 2020 IBC Competition In Memphis
The MnBS "Best Self-Produced CD" competition featured some veterans from past International Blues Competitions in Memphis. Mark Cameron Band represented Minnesota in 2017, Tony Cuchetti and Joe Flip were the Solo/Duo act in 2019 and Craig Clark was a member of the Dee Miller Band in 2019. Bambi Alexandra was a Solo/Duo competitor in the 2014 Road To Memphis Challenge at Amsterdam Bar & Hall in St Paul.
Once again, the CD competition was very close. The final tally showed Mark Cameron's On A Roll was the overall first ranked pick by a panel of twelve judges.
On A Roll is comprised of fourteen original tunes penned by Mark Cameron ("Movin Out" was co-written with John Benedict and Jerry Girouard). Sessions were recorded at Bathtub Shrine Recording, Minneapolis MN and Closet Studios, Owatonna, MN between March 2018 and March 2019. The principal musicians appearing on the CD are Mark Cameron, guitar and vocals; Sheri Cameron, saxophone, flute and washboard; Scott Lundberg, bass; Dan Schroeder, drums and Rick Miller, harmonica. Additional performances were provided by Jason Craft, Greg Schutte, Nick Salsbury, Ian Schroeder, Chico Perez and Bill Keyes.
Catchy lyrics and musical hooks abound on this superbly recorded CD and the musicianship is outstanding. I recommend that you give this and all the other CDs in this year's competition a listen. We are very blessed to have such an abundance of muscial talent in Minnesota. — Jake Jacobson
