Youth Showcase Act Needs Funds
To Get To IBC in Memphis

The Black Water Blues Band will be representing Minnesota at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN January 23, 2015.

Unlike the adult acts going to Memphis, the Youth Showcase Band has not had a lot of time to hold fundraisers to help them collect money to offset their travel expenses.

If you are interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to help these lads make their journey, please click on the button below. — The Road To Memphis Committee

Blue Ballots Are On The Way

Eligible voting members of MnBS will be receiving proxy ballots in the mail for the upcoming Board of Directors election to be held at the Annual Meeting and Holiday Party on December 7. You may vote by mail or cast your ballot online. Instructions will come with the ballot. Why do the ballots have that blue cast to them? Well, it is a blues society, but actually Jake's laser printer had a defective cyan cartridge.

Back At It by Big George Jackson Blues Band

Big George Jackson
- Back At It
Tops "Best Self-Produced CD" Competition

The Back At It CD by Big George Jackson Blues Band was selected by a panel of judges to represent Minnesota at the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN in the "Best Self-Produced CD" Competition. The other seven entries in this year's field were Designated Rider by The Abiders, New Ground by Bob Bingham, Blues At Barkin' Jack's by Doug Otto & Hurricane Harold, Live From The Park Theater by Jimmi and the Band of Souls, Mike Munson by Mike Munson, The Blues Is Personal by Nigel Egg and Rock-A-Doodle-Blue the The Rhythm Roosters.

My sincere thanks to the judges who took the time to evaluate these CDs. This was no easy task with eight CDs and the quality of this year's entries. If you have not heard these acts I would encourage you to seek them out on the Blues Gig Calendar and buy their CDs. Once again, I am amazed at how truly blessed we are to have such a plethora of musical talent in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Blues Society is now accepting blues CDs released between October 1, 2014 - September 30, 2015 for the 2016 competition. CDs must be received by October 1, 2015. See CD Competition for details. — Jake Jacobson
