Sweet Tea Band
Takes Road To Memphis
2015 Band Challenge

It is a treat each year to see a showcase of local talent perform at the Road To Memphis Challenge. This year Sweet Tea won a very close competition with RAMM Band finishing second and Bluedog finishing third. Completing the day's entertainment were Fattenin' Frogs, Jimmi and the Band of Souls and Squishy Mud. All first rate acts. Many thanks to the judges, timekeepers, scorekeepers, Vig Guitars, The Drum Loft, the staff at Wilebski's Blues Saloon, Ted Wilebski, Jim Pinckney, Ken Tritz, Richard Schaefer, the volunteers and all of the audience members who showed up on a spectacular April afternoon. More pictures and a complete recap will be posted in the near future on the web site. — Jake Jacobson

The Winner is… Octafuzz
2015 Road To Memphis Youth Showcase

The plan for an afternoon’s celebration of blues music for the Minnesota Blues Society’s Road To Memphis Youth Showcase competition at the Minnesota Music Café (MMC) in St Paul on July 26th fell through. Several of the registered groups discovered conflicts with their schedule and the planned line-up evaporated. We thank MMC for their assistance and cooperation and plan on having future blues events take advantage of their famous and fabulous venue.

Instead the committee used its prerogative and designated the band Octafuzz as the 2016 IBC representative for the Minnesota Blues Society in the Youth Showcase.

Octafuzz is composed of Dylan Salfer on guitar and vocals, Mikey LaSusa on guitar and vocals, Isaac Brunner-Gadient on percussion and Robert Northrup on bass guitar. Dylan, Isaac and Robert were participants at last year’s Showcase on Beale Street in Memphis and will use their experience of being seasoned professionals during the whirlwind of blues activity.

Thanks to Sandy and Jerry Hokanson for driving the Youth Showcase and putting a lot of work into the lead-up. Also, hats off to Luke Braulick (MMC), Tim Reigstad (Graphics) and Stacey Marmolejo (Regional Director/Owner School of Rock Twin Cities) who pitched in. Thanks to Vig Guitars and The Drum Loft for providing the back-line equipment. To all the acts that had registered and intended to participate, please keep us in mind next year; we’ll be offering another springboard to a national blues audience. And finally, thank you to all of the blues fans who are supportive and care about the next generation of blues. — Richard Schaefer

You can show your support for the Youth Showcase act that has been selected to represent Minnesota at the 2016 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN by making a tax-deductible donation to the funds to help offset their travel expenses. Participating acts are not compensated for their performances at the IBC. — Road To Memphis Committee
